Samuel Joseph Medica passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the age of 91. He was born in Alexandria, Louisiana to Charles Joseph Medica and Dora Giordano Medica. Upon graduation from Bolton High School, Sam received his degree in Education from Louisiana College in Pineville. He began his career as a teacher, then assistant principal prior to taking a position with the Louisiana Department of Education. He retired as their Director of Physical Management in Special Education, after more than 30 years serving the Louisiana School Systems. His dedication to the students and faculties was evident to all who knew him.
Sam is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Charles Medica and Donald Medica; and his sister, Mary Rose Graves. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Miranda Lacombe Medica; their son Michael Medica and his wife Lori; their daughter Pam Medica and her husband Kevin; and his beloved grandchildren Garrett Slusher, Shannon Slusher, Mikaela Medica and Brandon Medica. He is also survived by his sister Angela Lahood and her husband George; as well as numerous other family and friends.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff with Bridgeway Hospice for their compassionate care.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, 626 4th Street in Alexandria, Louisiana. A visitation will be held in Baton Rouge from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge, and in Alexandria beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the church. Interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park in Pineville, Louisiana.
