Sandra Slack Prewitt

Sandra Slack Prewitt, a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on June 12, 2024, at the age of 75. Sandra was born on November 24, 1948, in Cotton Valley, Louisiana. Sandra graduated from Cotton Valley High School, Northwestern State University, and also from Louisiana State University with a Master’s Degree in Library Science. A lifelong educator, Sandra taught at Curtis Elementary, Red Oak Elementary, Highland Elementary, and her beloved Shenandoah Elementary where she served as the school librarian. In her free time, Sandra could be found knitting, reading, tending to her many plants, cheering for LSU or at one of many events for her grandchildren. She was known for her deep Christian faith and was diligent with scripture memorization. 

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Theron and Ora Slack; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roy and Audrey Prewitt; her brothers, Bobby and Carroll Slack; and her brother-in-law, Fred Price. 

 Sandra is survived by her husband of 49 years, Roy Prewitt, Jr.; daughter Rebecca Compretta (Jeremy); son Stephen Prewitt (Trisha); her magnificent seven grandchildren, Kyle, Margaret, William and Gabriel Compretta, Evan, Samuel and Matthew Prewitt; also sisters-in-law, Anne Price and Linda Slack; brother-in-law Alton Prewitt (Cindy); and nieces and nephews Stephanie Allen, Craig Slack (Sylvia), Paul Slack (Jennifer), Chris Prewitt (Katie) and Bryan Prewitt (Valerie).

 Services will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home located at 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70816 on Monday, June 17, 2024. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am followed by the memorial service at noon.
