Sheila "MawMaw" Melancon

Sheila "MawMaw" Melancon, age 76, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2025, in Denham Springs, Louisiana. She was born on November 16, 1948, in Beaumont, Texas.

Sheila earned a Bachelor of Education and dedicated her career to teaching. Known affectionately as "MawMaw," she created a nurturing environment for her friends and family.

Outside of her career, Sheila had many interests. She loved reading and was an avid football fan. She enjoyed cooking, reading, and sharing stories, particularly those of historical significance, which she enjoyed discussing with her great-grandson, Abel. She had a love for animals, more specifically, watching ducks and her hummingbirds. Sheila cherished her loved ones and would often engage in long phone calls with friends and family.

Sheila is survived by her son, John R. Morris II (Alicia); grandchildren, Landon Palmer, Katelyn Jones (Karson), John R. Morris III, Tyler Savell, Claire Wilkinson, and Grant Wilkinson; as well as great-grandchildren Abel Palmer and soon-to-be Kyson Morris. She is also survived by numerous friends and family that she adored. Sheila was a “MawMaw” to all.

Sheila was preceded in death by her mother, Mary “ Marguerite” Anderson; and her daughter, Heather Wilkinson.

Visitation will be on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, at Resthaven Funeral Home, located at 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA. Funeral Services will begin at 2:00 PM, followed by burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
