Shirley Hickman Didier passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026, at the age of 97 at her home in Houston, Texas. Born in Alexandria, Louisiana, Shirley was the third of four daughters. She graduated from Bolton High School in Alexandria and attended LSU in Baton Rouge. She met her husband, Don E. Didier, on a blind date to an LSU football game in 1958, and they were married months later on March 14, 1959.
Shirley stayed in Baton Rouge after Don’s death in 1987, where she remained active by traveling with friends, playing bridge, and staying involved in a number of organizations. In 2008, she moved to Houston to be nearer to her daughter, Darcy, and her family. She instantly made new friends and became involved at what is now Pegasus Preserve, an independent living community.
Shirley was a Junior League Sustaining Member Emeritus, and was involved in the Houston Sustainer Transfer Club. She was a member of PEO, Chapter DU, in Houston. Shirley volunteered at Chapelwood Methodist with the Senior Adults Ministries, and was a Texas Children’s Hospital Ambassador. At her residence community, Shirley began playing and excelling at Texas Hold ‘Em in addition to bridge. She enjoyed numerous other activities and outings, including the Mystery Lunch group and the Book Club.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Edward Didier; her parents, John Webster Hickman and Mary Anna Pearce Hickman; and her sisters Elizabeth Campbell Yeomans and Evelyn Scudder.
She is survived by her daughter, Darcy Didier Morrissette and her husband, Steve; her sister, Joann Hickman Sterkx; and her granddaughters Jeanne Marie Morrissette and Catherine Morrissette Daboval and her husband, Tito; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirley was always devoted to her family. Her daughter, Darcy, meant the world to her, and her granddaughters were the light of her life. She treasured the many special family occasions they shared. Her gracious spirit and welcoming smile, her kindness, and her sparkle never faded, and will be remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
