Shirley B. Helms passed away at 3:05 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. She was 68, a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Marksville. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Sunday, Nov. 29, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home on Monday, Nov. 30, from 8:30 a.m. until service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Tommy Middleton. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Steve Speight; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ernie J. and Becky Harper, and Chris P. and Lorie Harper; four sisters, Theresa Bordelon, Ann Bordelon, Sable Guillot and Marjorie Priester; two brothers, John Bordelon and Richard Bordelon; grandchildren, Christopher Harper, April Smith and husband Ray Smith Jr., Angrielle Phillips, Philip Harper, Amber Blazier, John Blazier, Anthony Brown, Nick Harper and Tyler Brazier; two great-grandchildren, Rayvon Anthony Smith and Brooklyn Rhea Smith; and very close friends who are like family, Danielle Booker, Kearstin Joseph and Brittany Lands. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ernest H. Harper and Gale Helms; two sons, Ernest and Jerry Harper; parents, Joseph A. and Eugenie S. Bordelon; sisters, Mable Cooper and Betty Ann Bordelon; brothers, Gaston Bordelon, Lawrence Bordelon and Joseph Junior Bordelon; a granddaughter, Danielle Friedman; a great-grandson, Braiden Freidman; and special friend, Richard Young. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.
