Shirley Morgan

Shirley Marie Morgan passed away peacefully in her home June 13, 2024. She was 89. Shirley was born January 28, 1935, in Ventura, California to Paul and Marie Weatherford. She grew up in California and married Gene Baumbach. They had two sons, moving to multiple cities across the United States with his job and she eventually settled in Baton Rouge, which has been her home for over 50 years. 

Shirley met her beloved husband Ed Morgan, in 1974 and they were happily married for 35 years until his passing in 2009. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul Earl Weatherford and Marie Krugler Weatherford; brothers, Paul Weatherford and Alvin Larry Weatherford; and sister, Donna Dearmore. She is survived by her sister, Frances Sarace. 

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and she served many years there as a volunteer. Her family and faith meant everything to her. Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother and wife. She was always up for fun and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known for her warm smile, kind heart, quick wit, colorful stories, great sense of humor, and impeccable style. 

Shirley will be greatly missed by her family; her sons, Mike Baumbach and his wife, Faye and Charles (Chuck) Baumbach and his wife, Barbara; her grandchildren, Erin O’Kelly and husband, Connor, Brent Baumbach and wife, Erin, Matthew Baumbach, Charles Baumbach, Jessica Marchant and husband, Ricky, and Rachel Root. Shirley’s great grandchildren are Audrey O’Kelly, Camille O’Kelly, Blythe Baumbach, Marco Augello, Candace Jonason, Lydia, Kingston and Bryson Marchant. 

In addition to family, she has been blessed to have a life filled with numerous close friends, neighbors, nieces and nephews, who she loved dearly. They were always there for her, sharing meals, lending a helping hand, laughing and enjoying each other’s company. Their kindness and friendship are especially remembered and appreciated. 

A memorial service for family and friends will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 2021 Tara Boulevard, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 70806 at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2024. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Cemetery at 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 70816. A funeral reception will be held at Shirley Morgan’s home at 5434 Parkforest Drive, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 70816. 

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to her health care givers, Ann and Robbie, who provided excellent care and friendship over the past year.
