Sietta Marie Simon Wilmer was born on February 23, 1953, in Elizabeth, Louisiana, and was the eldest daughter to the late Wilma Brown Simon and late Leon Simon Sr. Preceding her in death are her brothers; Leon Simon II, Eddie Ray Simon, and her sisters: Shelia Q. Simon and Queen Esther Lewis. Sietta was a proud graduate of Elizabeth Senior High School, class of '71, and Southern University, class of '76, where she completed her degree in Elementary Education. On a beautiful spring day in May 1975, she married her buddy, political debate sparring partner, and husband, Jonathan Wilmer Sr. They were blessed with three children under their union, the late Quinton DaJuan Wilmer '72, Hon. Deddrick Tavares Wilmer '76, and Jonathan Wilmer, II '79. Cherished memories of Sietta will be forever etched into the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved her. This includes her beloved siblings, Rev. William Rigsby Simon, Juanita L. Anderson, Winnie Mae Cook, and Delores Stagg. Her wonderful grandchildren; Ja'Kira Cyprian '99, DuJuan James Wilmer '01, and Zavier Journet '13.
Sietta has many daughters of love: Dea'Vanca Simon '74, Nikki Houston Davis, Nicole Hawkins, Loretta Abrams, Rhonda Cormier Wilmer, Jacqueline Michelle Houston, R. Danielle Polk, and Yacheka Cyprian. In addition to a multitude of nieces, nephews, and her godchildren, Tara Wilmer-Kyle, Da’Jiaron Rochelle Houston, and Roland Houston, IV. Sietta worked for over 30+ years in education from administration to the classroom in Ascension Parish school district (Prairieville Elementary & Oak Grove Primary). She was recognized for her amazing contributions in the classroom and the community. She inspired the lives of so many students, specifically in the areas of mathematics. After retiring, she spent countless hours tutoring students in reading and math. As we all know, Sietta was the master of décor and proud founder and owner of "A Touch of Heaven” decorating services, where she created memorable wedding and event experiences for thousands of couples and organizations over the last 40 years. She always stood by the creed of excellence as a basic standard.
A funeral service will be held for Mrs. Sietta at Greater King David Baptist Church on Saturday March 4, 2023 at 12pm with burial to follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
