Sylvina Theresa Patin

Nov 30, 1939 — Jul 19, 2026

Sylvina Patin, 86, entered into her heavenly home on Sunday, July 19, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

Born Sylvina Theresa Broussard, on November 30, 1939, to Lawrence and Fannie Edgar Broussard, Sylvina left her childhood home in New Iberia, Louisiana and later moved to Baton Rouge to raise her family.

Her marriage of 66 years to Joseph Eric Patin began on August 8, 1959. During that time, they raised four children, Marcus, Melissa, Craig, and Eric. They also celebrated the birth of eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Sylvina was an avid cook and gardener. She was well-known for her delicious meat pies and made-from-scratch cakes that she lovingly, and beautifully, decorated for family and friends. When she wasn't in the kitchen, you could usually find her in the yard, tenderly caring for her plants and flowers. If anyone liked or showed the least bit of interest in her plants, she would take a cutting and spend time educating them on how to properly care for their new starter plant that was going home with them. She loved people and many lives were blessed by her generous heart.

A light and life that was once bright and beautifully lived, was dimmed by a 17-year battle with Alzheimer's. During her struggles, Sylvina remained faithful. She showed us all how to be strong when life throws you a loop, to never give up or give in, and most importantly to always remain faithful to the path that God chose for you.

Sylvina is survived by her husband, Joseph Eric Patin; children, Marcus (Jackie) Patin, Melissa (George) Ficklin, Craig Patin, and Eric Patin; siblings, Lawrence "Butch" Broussard, Patricia Broussard Tenette, James "Jim" (Monica) Broussard, and Fannie "Shot" Pellerin; sister-in-law, Mildred Broussard; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; godchild, Cheryl Anthony; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sylvina is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Fannie Broussard; siblings, Yvonne (Perry) Bourda, Richard "Chloe" Broussard, Mary Ann (Arthur) Jolivette, and Normand (Agnes) Broussard; and in-laws, Faye Broussard, Kendal Tenette, and Arnold "Buddy" Pellerin.

Pallbearers are Jordon Patin, Hunter Patin, Layne Goodman, Neil Patin, Brayden Brown, and Casey Marshall. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Millet and Eric Carruth.
