Terry Lynn Teekell of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on July 22, 2024, at the age of 81, following a long battle with Parkinson’s and Dementia. Terry was born on August 24, 1942, in Alexandria, Louisiana, as the only child to Arthur “AZ” Zebedee Teekell and Muriel Burnum Teekell. He attended Bolton High School in Alexandria and graduated from Louisiana State University in Petroleum Engineering in 1965.
After graduating college, he worked several years in oil production in Midland, Texas. He married Jean Egizi in 1965. He relocated to Opelousas, Louisiana in 1971, where he became the Superintendent of Opelousas Water Utilities. In 1978, Terry relocated again to Baton Rouge as Superintendent of Parish Water Company, a subsidiary of Baton Rouge Water Company. Terry retired as Vice President and General Manager of Parish Water Company in 2007. He was a member of the American Water Works Association for 30 years.
Terry enjoyed many years of sailing on False River, Lake Pontchartrain, the Gulf Coast, and even had a sailing adventure to Cuba in 1998. He loved all types of music, especially with his Parrot Head friends listening to Jimmy Buffett. He was a loving and kind man who always enjoyed a good time, especially if it involved family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Ermyne Seale Collura Teekell; his children, Jeffery Owen Teekell, Jennifer Hope Teekell Sloper (Jason); his stepchildren, Frank Richard Collura (Dawn), Kathryne Collura McCann (Jason); and his grandsons, Avery Sloper, Addison Sloper, Bryce Collura, Hunter McCann, Jacob McCann and Trey McCann.
A memorial service will be held for Terry on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge at 8470 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A brief visitation will be held prior to the 11:00 A.M. service.
