Theresa “Gail” White Chastant passed away on August 14, 2026. The youngest of five children, Gail was a devoted wife, loving mother, treasured grandmother, and faithful friend. Her warm smile, gentle spirit, quiet strength, and unwavering kindness left a lasting imprint on everyone she encountered.

Gail shared a love story of nearly 50 years with her husband, Lee Chastant. Married for 44 of those years, they built a life rooted in love, faith, commitment, and devotion to one another and to their family. Their marriage was a living testament to the promises they made and the love they carried through every chapter of life.

She was the beloved mother of Meghan, Adam, and Kyle, and the cherished grandmother of Abigail, Hawk, Banks, and soon-to-arrive Josie. Gail loved her family above all else. She found joy in cheering for Abigail at dance recitals and volleyball games, watching Hawk play baseball, playing trucks with Banks, and creating lasting memories with each of her grandchildren.

Gail found joy in growing exquisite flowers and plants, cultivating beauty in her flower beds, and taking pride in her yard. Whether she was crafting the landscape, curating the lawn, or nurturing her blooms, she created a place of peace and beauty for everyone to enjoy.

She loved animals, especially her cats, but her compassion extended to any animal in need. If she crossed paths with an abandoned horse, a neglected dog, or a stray cat, she could not help but care for it and find it a home. Her kindness knew no boundaries.

She enjoyed sporting her purple and gold while cheering for her beloved LSU Tigers. Through the good times and the bad times alike. She loved unconditionally, even her Tigers.

To her family, Gail was their safe place, their best friend, the steady rock beneath their feet, the foundation of their family, the gentle force that united them, and the glue that held them together. She was a mentor and guide in every season of life, loving with an instinctive, unconditional, and ever-present devotion. Her home and her heart were always open. She continuously went above and beyond to ensure her family felt cared for, supported, accepted, and never alone.

Gail embodied everything a mother should be; a nurturer whose love felt like home, a steady presence who anchored her family through every season, an emotional shelter whose calm made every burden lighter. She protected with fierce devotion, taught with patience, and loved with a tenderness that never wavered. She put others’ needs above her own without hesitation, offering a constant, quiet strength that shaped the lives around her. She was the definition of dedication, everlasting love, and unrelenting support, not only as a mother and a wife, but as an extraordinary human being whose goodness touched anyone and everyone lucky enough to know her.

In addition to being the best mother, she was an outstanding person. Gail was a tremendous joy to be around. She was warm, welcoming, and effortlessly kind. She had a natural way of making people feel good, valued, and completely at ease. Her presence alone brought a sense of calm, steadiness, and peace. She shed a light that softened the world for others.

People gravitated toward her genuine spirit, her big heart, and her subtle grace. Time with her felt easy and comforting, full of warmth and sincerity. She allowed people the comfort of being themselves, making them feel at home just by being who she was. She listened with her whole heart and cared with her whole soul, offering stability, kindness, and truth whenever someone needed it. She gave more than she ever asked for in return, treating everyone with dignity, compassion, and a gentle generosity that made life feel lighter.

Her friendships were deep, loyal, and genuine. She was the friend you could rely on, trust, and confide in. She was the friend who showed up fully, without hesitation, and whose presence alone made everything feel better. She brought laughter, sincerity, and an easy way of living into every setting. But the most valuable gift she offered was her time. She gave it freely and lovingly to anyone who needed comfort or companionship. You would never know that time is such a precious, finite gift with how willingly she gave it away when someone needed her.

She touched lives quietly but deeply, leaving a lasting impression not because she sought recognition, but because kindness was simply who she was. She moved through life with such humility and grace. Her goodness was felt instantly and remembered always. She was a blessing to those around her, a rare soul whose light continues to shine in the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to have known her.

Her specialty was bringing thoughtfulness and care to the ordinary moments that became meaningful simply because of her presence. And she always found a way to be there. When you needed her, she was there. No matter the circumstance, the location, the severity, big or small, she was there.

To her family, Gail was home. Home was never an address, a physical place, or a structure. Home was wherever she was.

Though her absence is immeasurable, the depth of her love and the mark she left on our lives will forever be the foundation that holds us steady. She was, and will always be, irreplaceable in every way. She will never be forgotten because she lives on through each of us.

To the friends and family, we deeply appreciate the love, prayers, and support shown throughout her illness and extended stay in the hospital. Without your support, we would not have been able to provide the attention and care she so greatly deserved. She devoted her life to showing up for others, so being able to show up for her in her greatest time of need was an honor beyond measure, one we will forever cherish. We are immensely grateful and overwhelmingly blessed to have shared our lives with her, and subsequently with all of you. Our level of gratitude is incalculable.

Gail, My Beautiful Bride, Mom, Mama, Mima, we cannot thank you enough for being part of our lives. Truly, words cannot capture the gratitude we carry in our hearts. We have cherished every moment spent with you, and we will continue to honor you everywhere we go and in all that we do. You are forever a part of us, forever in our hearts. We LOVE you. Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 2250 Main St., Baton Rouge, LA 70802, on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
