A journalist for the Florida Times-Union he died on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at his home in Jacksonville, Fla. He was 56, a native of Baton Rouge and veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Monday, Nov. 24, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until service at 2 p.m., conducted by Deacon Brent Duplessis. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by his wife of 21 years, Jan Meares Dardenne; daughter, Lalie Edgecombe and husband Chad; son, Ian Smith; brothers, Robert Dardenne and wife Barbara O'Reilley; four grandchildren, William Buck, Sydney, Canon and Samantha; and nephew, Robert P. Dardenne. Preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. Sr. and Theresa Russell Dardenne. He was a graduate of Istrouma High School and received his degree in journalism form St. Michael's College in Burlington, Vt.
