Thomas Joseph Jarreau

September 14, 1950 — June 5, 2026

Thomas Jarreau, age 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family. Born on September 14, 1950, Thomas lived a life defined by courage, sacrifice, service, and unwavering devotion to his family.

Thomas proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. As a young soldier, he was sent into one of the most brutal chapters of that conflict and fought in the historic Battle of Hamburger Hill. Amid relentless enemy fire, unforgiving terrain, and unimaginable hardship, Thomas was wounded in combat and later received both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his bravery, sacrifice, and distinguished service. These honors stand as lasting symbols of the courage, selflessness, and dedication he displayed while serving his nation.

Those who knew Thomas understood that his strength extended far beyond the battlefield. After returning home, he continued a life of service through his work with the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, where he worked faithfully until retirement. He believed deeply in helping others and found great fulfillment in mentoring young people.

A devoted father, Thomas invested countless hours supporting his daughters in their 4-H and FFA Organization activities. He encouraged them to work hard, pursue excellence, and never give up on their goals. He was especially passionate about sharing his welding skills with young FFA members, teaching them not only a trade but also the value of dedication, discipline, and hard work. Through community service projects and mentorship, he continued to serve others long after his military service had ended.

Above all, Thomas loved his family. He is survived by his daughters, Martha Louann Leblanc and her husband Brandon, and their children, Jack, Kenneth, Trinity and Morgan; and Alicia Lyn Jarreau and her wife Christy, and their children, James, Chloe, and Logan. He is also survived by his former wife, Georgia Jarreau; his sisters, Audrey Lindsey (Don), Susan Harris, and Sandra Stafford; along with many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Roger Jarreau Sr. and Laura Jarreau; his sister, Lucy Stidger; and his brother, Roger Jarreau Jr.

After raising his children, Thomas embraced one of the greatest joys of his life, being a grandfather. He devoted himself to his grandchildren with the same love, guidance, and selflessness that defined every chapter of his life. His family was his greatest accomplishment and his proudest legacy.

Thomas was part of living history. He stood in places most only read about. He endured hardships most could never imagine. Yet despite the burdens he carried, he returned home and built a life centered on service, family, and community. He taught those around him through his example of showing that true strength is found in perseverance, humility, loyalty, and love.

His legacy is one of honor, sacrifice, and devotion. He will be remembered a mentor, a father, a grandfather, and a man whose courage touched generations.

“A hero is someone who has given his life to something bigger than himself.”
