Victor Mcdearman, Jr.

Victor Lee McDearman, Jr. passed away unexpectedly on July 15, 2022, while vacationing with his family in Gulf Shores, AL. He was born in Aberdeen, MS on May 23, 1944, to the late Victor Lee, Sr. and Ruth Wamble McDearman. He was a resident of Baton Rouge and a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Provine High School in Jackson, MS and earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Mississippi State University in 1966, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He also earned his Master of Business Administration from Louisiana State University in 1975.

Victor served in the United States Army and was the Missile Site Commander for the Mt. Tamalpais Missile Site in San Francisco, CA during the Vietnam War.  He worked at Ethyl Corporation and Albemarle Corporation for over 25 years in a variety of management positions for petrochemical and specialty product operations in Arkansas, Louisiana, South Carolina, Greece, and Belgium. During this time, he and his family lived four years in Thessaloniki, Greece and four years in Brussels, Belgium. He retired as Vice President from Albemarle in 2000.

Victor was a member of the Baton Rouge Round Table. He was always willing to help where needed and shared his organizational skill by working with the Food Bank and delivering food to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, assisted with Habitat for Humanity, as well as raised funds for the YMCA to support their many community programs. Victor had a gift that drew everyone in with his quick, dry wit and marvelous storytelling. He enjoyed friends from many different cultures and communities and traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, America, Africa, and the Middle East with his family or for business.

Victor was married for 49 years to the former Helen Neyland who preceded him in death. He is survived by his three children, Stephanie McDearman Hollingsworth of Pensacola, FL, Mark Neyland McDearman (Tina) of Brandon, MS, and Elizabeth McDearman Byers (Andrew) of Baton Rouge; LA, one brother, Will Wamble McDearman of Jackson, MS and one sister, Mary Ann Greco of Jackson, MS; six grandchildren, Alexis Victoria and Trevor Allen Hollingsworth, Emma Lilyia and  Mason Todd McDearman, and Crawford Madey and Mae Helen Byers; many loved nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and extended family; and his special friend, Sondra Jones Pilgreen.

Visitation will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home in Baton Rouge, LA on Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.  Visitation will continue on Friday, July 29, 2022 from 10:00 AM until Funeral Service at 11:00 AM.  Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.  Donations can be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank in Victor’s name.
