William "Bill" H. Alexander III

William “Bill” H. Alexander III passed away on June 28, 2026, at the age of 78. A resident of Baton Rouge, Bill graduated from Glen Oaks High School, was a proud LSU alumnus and also studied law at Tulane University.

Bill proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War with the 101st Airborne Division, the legendary "Screaming Eagles”. As an Army Ranger, he served in combat with courage, dedication and unwavering commitment to his fellow soldiers. For his exemplary service and sacrifice, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart and the Army Commendation Medal. Following his honorable discharge in 1971, he continued his service in the United States Army Reserve.

While attending LSU, Bill started his own business as a photographer, capturing weddings and special events. Later, he had a successful career in the marine transportation industry working in oil and gas logistics.

Driven by a lifelong passion for auto racing, Bill founded American Autosports Productions to celebrate the sport and its community. Under his leadership, the company launched the "Fun Ford Weekend" (FFW) series. What began as a single event grew into the nation's premier all-Ford drag racing and car show series. Alongside his dedicated FFW team, Bill traveled across the country bringing enthusiasts together and building a vibrant nationwide community united by a shared passion for Ford performance and racing.

Bill's quick wit and natural gift for storytelling made him a friend to many. He loved LSU sports and enjoyed cheering on his beloved Tigers with friends, sharing laughs at the hunting camp as well as spending time on the golf course. An avid reader and devoted history buff, he found great joy in working on his model railroad bringing his impressive N scale train collection to life. He had a deep love for animals and approached the world with kindness, generosity and a welcoming spirit.

Bill is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cheryle Alexander; his sisters, Marilu Ballow of Houston and Beth Alexander (Bill) of Shreveport; his nieces and nephews, Robin Lonchar (Mike), Renee Grimes (Bobby), Bart Alexander (Misty), Brooke Conley and Brannon Alexander (Hannah); his cousin, Lota Lamonica (John) and numerous great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Marielouise Alexander; his aunt and uncle, Hugh and Margurite Wagner; his aunt and uncle, Clarence and Mickey Wagner; his cousin, Gene Wagner and nephew, Joseph Ballow.

Bill donated his body to the Bureau of Anatomical Services at LSU Medical School in New Orleans; a final selfless gift to medical research, education and future generations of physicians.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at 3:00pm on Sunday July 26, 2026 at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
