William H. Lewis (Bill), born on October 7, 1931, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the age of 94.
Bill was born in Smithville, Texas and grew up in Amite, Louisiana where he graduated from high school in 1948. In the early 1940’s he was a boy scout seat attendant at LSU Football games and became a lifelong Tiger fan. Bill graduated from LSU in 1952 with a Mechanical Engineering degree and went to work for Shell Oil Company. He was drafted into the United States Army and served at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. While in the Army, Bill married Billy Jean Pevey starting a life-long marriage that lasted 71 ½ years. After the Army, Bill resumed his engineering career at Shell Oil Company for 39 years. His work took him from Norco to St. Louis to Houston to Baton Rouge where he finally retired. Along with his wife Billy, he was a charter member of Highland Presbyterian Church. Bill always enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and reading historical nonfiction.
Bill is survived by his daughter, M. Susan McWilliams (Steve); sons, David Lewis (Marilynn) and John Lewis (Sandra); sister, Sara Ellen Dunne; brothers, John Lewis and Elton (Bo) Lewis; grandchildren, Sarah, John, Jim, LeEllen, Josh, Will, and Alexandra; and great-grandchildren, Maggie, Jack, and Daniel.
A Funeral Service will take place at Highland Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 10:00 AM, officiated by Chaplain Geary Williams. A burial will follow at Arcola-Roseland Cemetery, 63386 Hill St. Roseland, LA 70456, at 1:00 PM.
