William "Bill" Greene Lawrence

November 26, 1941 — April 2, 2026

William Greene Lawrence passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the age of 84. He was born on November 26, 1941, in Francisco, North Carolina to Welbern Lawrence and Emily Ayers Lawrence. He was a graduate of Francisco High School. Bill proudly served our country in the United States Navy, where he was a Seabee, specializing in construction and engineering during the Vietnam War. He began his career in telecommunications with AT&T and retired from Nortel.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 52 years, Peggy Lou Phillips Lawrence; and his brothers Norman Richard Lawrence and Donald Gray Lawrence.

Bill is survived by his loving daughters Emily Elizabeth Lawrence Wallace and her husband James, and Sheri Marie Lawrence Demouy and her husband Chris; his grandchildren James Edward Wallace III, Lauren Wallace Robinette and her husband Logan, William Lawrence Wallace and his wife Kyleigh, Jackson Greene Demouy, Sarah Wallace Vanderford and her husband Chase, Emma Leigh Demouy and Mia Elizabeth Demouy; and his great-grandchildren Ben Robinette and Isaiah Robinette. He is also survived by his brother, Terry Welborn Gates Lawrence and his sister, Sarah Mae Lawrence; as well as numerous other loving family and friends.

Bill was a devoted Christian, having attended Boulevard Baptist Church in Lake Charles, where he became a Deacon before moving to Baton Rouge. His practice of faith then continued at Parkview Baptist Church. He enjoyed the game of golf, so much so that his pastime provided him with a retirement career’ as a Marshal at Santa Maria Golf Course. When he wasn’t out on the links, you would find him gardening, tending to his yard and anything that gave him time to spend outdoors.

He will forever be remembered for his greatest role as “Pops”. We cherish the many memories and will carry him in our hearts forever.

The family extends its deepest gratitude to Krystal Craig and Joe Jordan of Lending Hands, as well as the staff at The Clairborne and Southern Grace Hospice.

At his request, private services will be held.
