First Sergeant Casey James Hart, 42, of Baton Rouge, was deployed in a combat theater in the Middle East. He passed away on June 8, 2021 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He was born on September 8, 1978 in Metairie, Louisiana.
Casey started his military career with HHC 3rd Battalion 67th Armor in Fort Hood, Texas in 1997. Casey later transferred to the Louisiana Army National Guard with the 2-156th Infantry Regiment. He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and also Operation Inherent Resolve. Casey also served as Company First Sergeant for Bravo Company 2-156th Infantry Battalion. During his 24 years of service with the Louisiana Army National Guard, Casey received the Meritorious Service Medal, Posthumous, Army Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal w/Bronze Service Star, Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal w/Bronze Service Star, Louisiana Cross of Merit, Posthumous, Louisiana War Cross, Combat Infantryman Badge, and numerous other federal and state awards and recognitions throughout his career.
Casey was a 14 year veteran of the Baton Rouge Police Department. Corporal Hart was assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division and received multiple Letters of Commendation throughout his service with the department.
Casey is survived by his wife, Keri A. Hart; daughter, Taylen E. Hart; mother, Debra A. Hart; father, Terry R. Hart; mother-in-law, Deborah F. Andrus; father-in-law, Danny P. Andrus; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Chester and Mary Ann Maniscalco Hart; maternal grandparents, Harold L. Soileau and Jennie C. Comeaux.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home on Sunday, June 20, 2021, beginning at 10:00 AM until 8:30 PM. Visitation will continue Monday, June 21, 2021, at Resthaven Funeral Home from 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM, with Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 PM at St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church. Burial to follow at Louisiana National Cemetery in Zachary, Louisiana at 2:00 PM.
