Obituary

Robert Tracy Justis passed away peacefully at his home on July 12, 2021 from complications of Parkinson's Disease. He was 77 years old.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy Reynolds Justis and Ardis Caroline Larson Justis, and by his sister, Joan R. Shaw, and brother-in-law, Brent Shaw.

He was born April 6, 1944 in the Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Aurora, Colorado. He lived in the Denver area until he graduated from East High School in 1961. He went to Purdue University for two years before going on a mission for his church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He spent two and a half years in France in the French East Mission. After returning from his mission, he attended Brigham Young University where he received his Bachelor's and MBA degrees. He received his Doctor of Business Administration degree from Indiana University in 1972. After graduating from Indiana University, he taught at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas for 5 years. He then taught at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln for 10 years. He then came to Louisiana State University where he taught in the School of Business for 27 years, retiring in 2014 as a Professor Emeritus. He authored two textbooks and coauthored 3 others. His best-selling Franchise textbook was also translated into Chinese. He won many awards from the business community and received many teaching awards over his 42 years of teaching. He was also very active in his Church, serving as Bishop three times: once in Lincoln, Nebraska and twice in Baton Rouge. He was always ready to serve. He loved to bake bread and won prizes at the Nebraska State Fair for his skills. He also loved to travel. He visited all 7 continents, all 50 states and 64 countries.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susan Rae Zimmerman Justis, and daughter Jill Anderson and her husband, Sam Anderson, and daughter Jeri Justis. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren Skyler Mattix, Mikaela Mattix, Bob Anderson, Kyle Anderson, and Andy Anderson. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Justis and wife Joan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Because of family allergies, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Baton Rouge or The Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Foundation.

Viewing will be at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 10335 Highland Road, Baton Rouge, from 1 to 3 p.m. Funeral Services will follow at 3 p.m. Interment will be on Saturday, July 17, in Lincoln Memorial Park in Portland, Oregon.
